Ben Stubbs - Singer-Guitarist / Composer
His lyrics are eccentric as his music is eclectic, so much in fact that one might find oneself puzzled when trying to figure out the geographical location of this musician. A voice reminiscent of a whacked out baritone lounge singer that later morphs into a nasally soulful singer. On his recordings and during his live performances he accompanies himself with a flamenco guitar, (an acoustic instrument from Spain sharing similarities of its classical counterpart).
Southern Californian singer/songwriter, Ben Stubbs, is a recording artist actively performing his original music around the Los Angeles and Orange County area. During his career he has lent his contributions to film and TV works as a composer, guitarist and mandolin player. In 2009 he composed original music for the environmental documentary “Southern Tier”. In the early years of his career, he was in the Orange County bands: Ballistico (as "Buck Silverspur") and Pinkly Smooth (as "El Diablo") featuring the Rev and Synister Gates of Avenged sevenfold. Both bands released various albums between 2001-2003. In 2001 Stubbs released his first solo album, “Ben Stubbs’s Solo Album,” on a four track tape recorder. The album was highly experimental, so much in fact; that it contains a disclaimer that states, “This album may induce vomiting.” As a guitarist, Stubbs lives in two worlds. In the electric guitar world his influences encompass figures like “King of Surf Guitar" Dick Dale with his reverb washed surf sounds, while in the acoustic guitar world his influences are flamenco guitarists Paco de Lucia and Moraíto. As a singer his mid-range gutty voice is all his own. The music and sounds of Ben Stubbs are well demonstrated in their eclectic and at times abstract Pop/Rock form on his latest effort of all original music “Whirlpool of Sadness.”
